It is a representative immunosuppressant used for prevention of rejection reaction at the time of organ transplantation and it binds to the intracellular receptor in T lymphocytes inhibiting IL-2 and IFN-gamma transcription (calcineurin inhibition). C***equently, it inhibits activation and proliferation of helper T cells contributing to immune reaction.
