甘蔗生产全程机械化包括耕整地、种植、中耕施肥、植保、收获、装运等环节，而收获包括切梢、切割、清理和装运等作业工序，其工作量***多，也***为艰苦，约占生产甘蔗总作业量的55%。从整体水平来看，我国甘蔗生产中耕整地、种植、田间管理、运输等方面的机具已有成熟机型，并已在推广使用，而收获机械化仍是薄弱环节。我国的甘蔗收割仍然是人工劳作，采用人工砍断、剥叶、打捆装运的工艺流程，每个劳动力每天只能收0.5～0.6吨，1亩需8～10个劳动力。人工砍收甘蔗费用已经占到了甘蔗生产成本的40%以上，甘蔗收获的机械化成为制约甘蔗生产全程机械化的瓶颈和甘蔗生产成本居高不下的关键因素，成为当前提高甘蔗产业素质的迫切要求，是甘蔗产业发展的必然趋势。在东南亚例如泰国等***以及印度的产糖区的地形地貌与中国产糖区比较相似，目前其甘蔗收割也是人工砍伐。因此，这些***地区也是甘蔗联合收割机的巨大市场。从东南亚和印度等***的近年产糖量情况来分析，它们的甘蔗年产量为泰国6500万吨，马来西亚4400万吨，印度尼西亚1700万吨，***2700万吨，越南900万吨，印度21500万吨。上述各国甘蔗产量累计为37700万吨。若其中有60%以上的甘蔗是应用甘蔗联合收割机砍伐的话，则市场需求量高达30000台以上。
